French maison CELINE once again shows that true luxury does not need to be ostentatious. In its Spring/Summer 2026 collection, silk takes centre stage - a material whose craftsmanship, visual softness and refined character naturally resonate with the worlds of art and design.

Luxury takes many forms. Sometimes it reveals itself through a bold gesture; at other times, through the quiet perfection of material, cut and detail. The latter has long been characteristic of CELINE, a maison that combines Parisian ease with considered design and modern elegance.
In the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, led by Creative Director Michael Rider, silk comes to the forefront — a material with a unique place in fashion. Soft, noble, timeless and remarkably versatile, it appears across silk scarves, accessories and limited interpretations of the maison’s iconic handbags. Rather than feeling like a seasonal trend, these pieces become a natural part of a cultivated wardrobe.
The silk scarf belongs among those accessories that never lose their relevance. It can act as a subtle accent, a defining element of a look or a personal signature of style. CELINE approaches it in precisely this spirit — not as an additional decoration, but as a detail capable of transforming the overall impression.
CELINE’s scarves are based on nine original artworks, translated onto square silk formats. Their production draws on the tradition of Como, Italy, one of the most important centres of silk craftsmanship. It is here that fabrics are created and valued for their softness, depth of colour and meticulous finish. The result is a collection of accessories that naturally brings together French aesthetics with the Italian tradition of silk-making.

In the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, CELINE returns to motifs that have long shaped the identity of the maison. Yet they do not read as nostalgic references to the past. Instead, the brand interprets them with lightness and gives them a new, contemporary expression.
Among the most distinctive references is the “Sulky” motif, first introduced in 1966 and later revived within the visual language of the brand. The collection also features the iconic interlocking C’s, inspired by the chain links of Paris’s Arc de Triomphe. These elements are more than decoration for CELINE. They belong to the brand’s identity and reflect its ability to connect heritage with modern style.
A special place in the collection belongs to the “U.S. Mail” scarf. It revisits an original 1966 design by Madame Vipiana, inspired by American postal imagery. Created at a time when CELINE was preparing to enter the American market, the motif returns today as a playful yet elegant reference to the connection between French and American culture.
On the runway, CELINE showed that the silk scarf does not need to be worn only in the classic way around the neck. It appeared in the hair, as a bandana, draped loosely over the shoulders, tucked into a jacket or casually tied to a handbag. This effortless approach gives the collection its modern character.
It is luxury without overstatement. A style that feels natural rather than staged. And that is precisely where its strength lies. Silk here is not only a beautiful material, but a carrier of mood — lightness, refinement and confidence. CELINE reminds us that an exceptional accessory does not need to dominate a look. Sometimes, a single detail is enough to elevate it entirely.

Sotheby’s is delighted to welcome CELINE as the presenting partner of The New York Sales in May 2026. The partnership naturally brings together the worlds of fashion, art, craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
At first glance, these worlds may appear distinct. In reality, they are united by the same principles: quality, story and enduring value. Whether it is a work of art, a piece of architecture, design or a fashion accessory, true excellence often reveals itself over time.
CELINE’s silk collection captures this idea with remarkable ease. It reminds us that luxury does not need to be loud. It is enough for it to be thoughtful, beautifully crafted and naturally elegant.
